In 2005 the Chicago Tribune received a local broadcast Emmy for Outstanding Achievement for Documentary Programs – Documentary of Historic Significance for its production The City's Pastime, which chronicled the history of baseball in Chicago.

In 2007 the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences nominated the Chicago Tribune's Football in Chicago in the Outstanding broadband - long form catagory. The two-hour documentary showcased Chicago's love affair with football from Friday night high school games to Sunday's with the pros.

March 26, 2003 A Kuwaiti Red Crescent aid shipment was the first to reach the town of Safwan, Iraq. The three-truck load of food and water created a chaotic scene of pushing and shoving amid Iraqis fighting to get access. There to capture the chaos was the Tribune’s Sr. Producer Brad Piper, who was the only Tribune videographer in Iraq.
